FAQ
Therapy is a treatment approach that involves talking to a trained mental health professional to address psychological, emotional, and behavioral issues.
Anyone who is struggling with mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems, addiction, and life transitions can benefit from therapy.
If you are experiencing distressing thoughts or feelings, have difficulty managing your emotions, or have noticed a significant change in your behavior or functioning, it may be time to consider therapy.
Our practice utilizes an eclectic mix of therapies including CBT, EMDR, CPT, IFS, ACT, DBT focused therapy and others. Our approach is trauma informed, holistic, and collaborative. Some of those are listed below as we are constantly growing and learning new modalities, for example:
1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is a type of therapy that helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors that may be causing or exacerbating their symptoms.
2. Trauma Processing Therapies including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): EMDR is a form of somatic therapy that uses eye movements or other types of bilateral stimulation to help individuals process traumatic memories and heal depression, anxiety, addictions and chronic pain.
3. Somatic-based therapies: Mindfulness-based therapies, such mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) or acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), can help individuals develop skills to better manage their trauma symptoms.
4. Holistic, spiritually, or culturally based practices such as dream analysis, astrology, spiritual observances and readings. We often collaborate with other holistic and spiritual practitioners at the request of clients.
The length of therapy depends on your individual needs and goals. Some people may only require a few sessions, while others may need long-term treatment.
Therapy sessions typically involve talking with your therapist about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as well as learning physical (somatic) practices including but not limited to breathe work, tapping, visualization, eye movement, meditation. Your therapist may provide guidance, teach you coping strategies, help you process trauma, or help you gain insight into your issues. Sessions are 50 minutes long (up to 90 minutes for initial evaluation or extended sessions).
Yes, therapy is confidential, meaning that what you discuss with your therapist is private and protected by law. However, there are some exceptions to this rule, such as if your therapist determines that you are an imminent danger to yourself or others.
We require at least 24 hour notice of the need to cancel or reschedule appointments. If you miss your scheduled therapy appointment (no show) and you have not notified us at least 24 hours in advance and are unable to reschedule in the same week, you will be charged a no show fee.
All sessions are conducted virtually, allowing you to access therapy from the comfort of your own space.
