Introducing S.H.I.N.E. Girls: A Virtual Emotional Skills Group for Middle School Girls

S.H.I.N.E. Girls

Middle school is a season of becoming.

Friendships begin to shift. Social awareness deepens. Confidence can feel fragile. Emotions show up quickly and intensely, often before young girls have the language to fully understand what they are experiencing.

At Unwoven Muse Counseling Collective, we believe emotional skills are not something girls should have to figure out alone.

That is why we are excited to introduce S.H.I.N.E. Girls, a virtual emotional intelligence and confidence group designed specifically for middle school girls ages 11–14.

What Is S.H.I.N.E.?

S.H.I.N.E. stands for:

Self-awareness

Healthy expression

Inner confidence

Navigating relationships

Emotional regulation

This 8-week psychoeducational group provides a structured, supportive space where girls can build foundational emotional skills in community with peers.

Why Emotional Skills Matter in Middle School

Middle school is a critical developmental stage. Girls are learning how to:

  • Interpret social dynamics

  • Respond to peer pressure

  • Manage academic stress

  • Navigate changing friendships

  • Understand and regulate big emotions

Without guidance, many girls internalize their feelings, struggle with self-talk, or feel isolated in experiences that are actually very common.

Teaching emotional literacy and confidence early can:

  • Strengthen communication skills

  • Improve peer relationships

  • Reduce emotional overwhelm

  • Support healthy self-esteem

  • Build resilience that lasts beyond middle school

These are not just “school survival” skills. They are life skills.

What Makes This Group Different?

S.H.I.N.E. Girls is a psychoeducational, skills-based group, not a replacement for individual therapy. It is designed for girls who would benefit from structured emotional tools and peer connection in a supportive environment.

Each session is interactive and developmentally appropriate for virtual learning. Participants will engage in guided discussions, skill-building exercises, real-life scenarios, and practical coping strategies they can use immediately.

The group focuses on learning, growth, and empowerment.
