****Please note: I am a contractor for Mercor and not on the hiring staff. I am sharing my referral link and am not involved in any hiring decisions. Please read this blog in it's entirety. If you have any questions beyond this, you may comment on this post or message me on Facebook messenger. Please do not schedule an appointment at my clinic booking link. Thank you.

Why are you sharing this on your therapist website?
I’m sharing this here as a provider who works as an AI Writer Contractor who regularly receives inquiries from other clinicians and professionals about this role.
To be more specific:
As a clinician who's mission is to support successful people in healing and becoming their authentic self, I decided to utilize this blog post to not only share information but to inspire a host of other clinicians who are exhausted in the clinical space and would benefit from a bit of a reprieve. Honestly, this work has been a welcome and sustainable shift in how I use my skills.
This isn’t me leaving therapy. It is me acknowledging that many therapists are:
Burned out on constant emotional labor
Looking for flexible, non-clinical income
Curious about ethical ways to engage with AI
BUT ALSO
Searching for opportunities to pivot
I initially shared these roles privately. This blog now serves as a central place to explain what the work actually is and to host updated links.
What is the AI Writer Contractor role?
Mercor partners with companies that need human writers and evaluators to help train and assess AI systems.
Depending on the project, the work may include:
Writing or editing content used to train AI
Evaluating AI-generated responses for accuracy, tone, reasoning, and safety
Creating prompts, examples, or explanations
Applying professional judgment within structured guidelines
This is paid, contract, project-based, remote work.
Do I need technical or coding experience?
No.
You do not need to be a programmer or have a tech background. Many contractors come from mental health, healthcare, education, research, and other professional fields.
I’m a therapist—do I already have the skills for this?
Yes. Much of this work uses skills therapists already practice daily, including:
Analyzing language for clarity, intent, and nuance
Evaluating whether responses are ethical, appropriate, or misleading
Explaining complex ideas in clear, accessible language
Following structured frameworks and detailed guidelines
Using your clinical judgement to make decisions
Your current core clinical competencies translate naturally into this role.
What has your personal experience been like?
For me, this work has been a relief and a reset.
I can:
Work when I want
Scale hours up or down depending on my therapy caseload and personal life
Take breaks without guilt or rescheduling clients
The pay has been consistent, weekly, and fair, which is a meaningful change.
I finish work feeling mentally engaged.
I love it here! It is an independent contract role and you work on your own terms and on your own schedule. Mercor would like to see you get a minimum of 15 hours which is extremely doable. You can literally work anytime night or day with no daily minimum. Everything is web based. You are required to do one meeting but this does not have to be live, meaning you can watch the replay. All other meetings are optional. You are paid for all your onboarding, researching, and work.
Who is this work a good fit for?
This role tends to work well for:
Therapists or clinicians seeking flexibility or supplemental income
Professionals who enjoy writing and evaluation
People who want autonomy and clear expectations
Those interested in engaging with AI thoughtfully and ethically
It won’t be a fit for everyone—but for the right person, it can be very supportive.
Is this guaranteed work or placement?
No. Being referred or applying does not guarantee placement. Mercor’s hiring decisions are independent, and roles vary by availability and project needs.
However, the referral system is designed to streamline the vetting process by quickly identifying high-quality candidates. It’s based on the assumption that individuals (like me) already working on a Mercor project are well positioned to refer others who are also likely to be strong candidates. I was referred by a friend who has already been promoted to a reviewer.
I share these opportunities because they are legitimate, paid, and worth considering—not because they are a promise.
Why This Matters?
This work matters because it allows you to expand your skills, gain tech experience, and diversify your professional portfolio without leaving your current field . (Ahem—you can move up within as well!) If you’re hired, this experience belongs on your résumé: you’re now part of the growing AI/tech ecosystem, gaining legitimate, transferable skills in writing, evaluation, and critical thinking. Beyond that, it offers flexibility, structured projects, and clear expectations—providing balance, growth, and credibility in a field that’s increasingly integrated with technology.
Where can I find current Mercor AI writing roles?
This is my personal referral link. You can search through the available roles as they are subject to change.
Final thoughts
Therapists are allowed to want sustainability. We are allowed to use our skills in different ways. We’re allowed to build work lives that don’t rely entirely on emotional labor.
For me, Mercor AI writing has been a practical, grounding way to do exactly that.
If this helps, feel free to share this opportunity with someone who is quietly looking for another option.
